Johny

16 years

ID# WB9067

Johny is a young man with many interests! He loves to play catch, and he’s pretty good according to his social worker. The more opportunities he has to engage in that activity the more his skill improves. It would be a great activity to enjoy with his adoptive family! Johny also loves music and has his own guitar. Like many kids these days, he loves video games and enjoys Transformers.

Johny, who has some special needs that will require consistent and ongoing services throughout his life, is very drawn to the significant adults around him who engage with him in calm, patient, nurturing ways with lots of encouragement and praise. Johny, needs to have a caring adult nearby to help him stay on track, assist him with transitions, and remind him to do his chores and take care of his personal needs. He is most responsive to directives that are concrete and extremely specific. He is responsive, too, to coaching from caregivers and teachers to help him learn basic life skills.

Johny is in 10th grade for the 2017-18 year. He will likely continue to benefit from having an educational advocate who works closely with the school to ensure his academic needs are being met.

The really good news is that Johny has been making important behavioral progress, and is now better able to positively process his emotions when he’s feeling stressed or upset. He is very pleased and proud of the difference this progress has made for him socially.

Johny’s social worker looks forward to hearing from couples, single moms, and single dads who have experience with children and/or adults who have some special needs. Having the patience and willingness to redirect and coach Johny several times a day will be very important parental traits in meeting Johny’s needs. If you are a family that will help Johny focus on his love for music, electronics, and video games, and who can appreciate and value progress that happens in small steps, his social worker will want to talk with you.
