Robert is a very social boy with an active sense of curiosity and a huge smile. A puzzle wizard with very good spatial abilities, Robert completes several puzzles a month, many of which have 500 to a 1,000 pieces! Among his many favorite activities are swimming, playing T-ball, attending day camps in the summer, dancing and singing, and socializing. He thrives on attention from his favorite adults and loves to explore everything around him. Playful, friendly, and very outgoing, Robert is not at all shy, especially with adults. He’s a great little communicator who speaks quite well and loves to talk and be heard! Although his speech can get garbled when he gets too excited, he’ll often patiently rephrase his words or supplement what he means with gestures.

Robert has blossomed recently, and is thriving in his current foster home which he shares with several other children. With the positive parenting skills of his caregivers, who interact and connect with him as a very capable child with good potential, he is responding amazingly well. Robert is sweet with the other kids in his foster home, especially the younger ones. He is great buddies with a six-year-old foster sister and they have lots of fun engaging in fantasy play together. There is also a boy in the home, about Robert’s age, that he enjoys.

Now in 2nd grade, Robert has a school program that provides speech, occupational, and physical therapies to meet his learning and developmental needs. With supports, he is doing well in school. While Robert likes to be included in school activities, he’s really more into his own space and presents developmentally younger than his peers. If he had his choice, he’d sit in his classroom all day and do puzzles.

A significant aspect of Robert’s needs are related to food; simply stated, he does not have normal sensations of fullness and experiences a constant feeling of being hungry. Supervising and managing his food intake will likely be the most demanding task for his adoptive caregivers. Luckily, Robert loves to be active, and his weight is currently near normal thanks to a lot of physical activity and healthy food choices.
