Skylar is very loving, and adults appreciate that he is a polite young boy who asks for things nicely and says thank you! Skylar has come to love several outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, hiking, and sledding (anything in the snow!). Swimming, riding his bike, and playing basketball are other fun activities and great outlets for Skylar. An active, outdoorsy family could be a wonderful fit! When indoors he likes reading (he recently finished R. A. Salvatore’s Icewind Dale Trilogy), and playing board games.

In the fall of 2017, Skylar will be in 5th grade. Skylar isn’t quite at grade level, but he is benefiting from having some extra supports. It is expected that in a stable, consistent environment and with patient parent(s) who know how to motivate with encouragement and rewards he will move forward. Having an adoptive family who will advocate for any needed resources that will be help him to be successful would be a wonderful asset.

Skylar is benefiting from his participation in counseling where he is learning to process past experiences, and express his thoughts and feelings in positive ways. He appreciates having a special adult to talk to about what’s going on in his life. It will be important for his adoptive family to be supportive of using such resources.

Skylar has close bonds with his siblings, and has been able to stay in touch with them through phone calls mostly. He was really excited to be able to spend time with them in person last year! He also has ongoing contact with a former foster dad who has remained a positive influence in his life. He will value having the support of his adoptive parent(s) in maintaining these significant connections.

Skylar’s social worker especially wants to hear from patient, nurturing couples and single dads who will welcome this active, adventurous boy into their hearts and home. Parents who can provide a well-structured environment and consistency in expectations will help Skylar to feel most secure. An adoptive family with a good repertoire of behavioral tools and strategies and positive parenting skills; and who will allow Skylar the time he needs to build trust as he settles into his new home will be important.
