Meet Michael – what a sweet and lovable nine-year-old boy. Michael is an amazing youngster with a fun personality, determination, and a tender heart. One of his favorite things is the sound of water and he loves playing in water any chance he can get! He recently went to the circus and loved the sound of the motocross bikes. Michael does have a wheelchair that he uses primarily for feedings and at school, however he does like to be active and moving around, but he will tire easily. Michael is able to walk and needs limited assistance in getting in and out of vehicles, his chair, bed, etc; so he does not require someone lifting his full body weight. Michael is tall for his age and does appear older than his age. Michael’s receptive language skills continue to progress and he understands some words spoken to him.
Michael loves music and toys or objects that make noise and have lights on them. Michael is social and gets joy from being around other children. He does attend a daycare where he likes to be around the other children and be at the table with everyone during meal times. Michael is currently in a foster home with other children and the other children adore him. Michael can entertain himself but he needs to be closely supervised at all times. Michael can become anxious around new people or activities and prefers routine and predictability. Michael can walk for short periods of times and he can go down stairs slowly on his bottom with supervision. Michael needs a forever family who has extensive experience with medical and developmental special needs children and they will need to be committed to caring for him throughout his adult life. Michael enjoys being outside, but does not like to be out in the heat as it makes him very tired. Michael has two older sisters who reside with a relative who periodically have visits with him and this will need to be maintained.
