The best things about Journey, according to one adult who knows her well, are her intelligence, empathy for others, thoughtfulness, creativity, desire to be part of a family, and willingness to mediate problems and engage in self-reflection. A previous caregiver reports Journey is “always truthful,” loves to learn, and is fun to be with.

Journey loves animals and in the past has volunteered at a cat rescue program. She has had lots of fun playing Ultimate Frisbee and running on a track team. Journey enjoys spending time with her friends, as well as longboarding, reading, and listening to music. She has an eclectic taste in music, and prides herself on knowing artists that many of her peers do not know about. She would love to ride horses and she enjoys playing with Giggles, her pet rat. Over the summer, Journey attended her biological sister’s wedding. She reported having a good time, and being very happy she was able to be at both the ceremony and the reception. It would be wonderful for her adoptive family to be willing to support this important connection.

In 10th grade for the 2016-17 school year, Journey describes herself as “articulate, good at writing and very intuitive.” Her academic strengths are in language arts and social studies where she usually gets A’s. Journey appreciates having an educational advocate who is helping her to get enrolled in an alternative school which is the kind of educational environment where she feels most accepted and supported.

Journey has benefitted from counseling. She developed a meaningful relationship with a previous counselor, and found the experience to be so helpful that she would like to resume her participation with that same individual. It will be important for her adoptive family to be supportive of utilizing such supports as she settles into her new family, and in the future.

Journey wants to have a permanent family who will be there for her. A family who will be able to support her efforts to examine past experiences, while providing a nurturing and stable environment where she can feel accepted and valued for who she is would be a wonderful fit for Journey. A family with prior foster or adoptive experience of older children who can provide the unconditional warmth and acceptance she needs could make all the difference for her. If you are a single mom or a couple who would love to have a daughter with Journey’s many strengths, interests, and talents to enjoy and to build upon, we want to hear from you soon.
