Destiny is full of life! Intelligent, creative, and artistic, Destiny embraces new experiences and is very proud of the skills she is learning. Musically inclined, Destiny enjoys singing and, though her interests are elsewhere recently, she has in the past enjoyed playing the flute and guitar too. Her artwork and craft projects are other ways she enjoys expressing her creativity. Previously an avid reader (fantasy stories are among her favorite books), her reading comprehension is advanced for her age, and she is adept at speed reading.

Destiny loves animals, particularly dogs and cats. She also loves fashion and sparkle. Destiny loves the outdoors, and playing interactive games, such as Hide and Seek, are favorite activities with other children. Destiny likes a wide variety of foods – she especially likes sweets, so reminders to enjoy in moderation are helpful. She is really enjoying learning to cook! When Destiny is truly having a good time, her smile just beams.

Destiny is in 7th grade for the 2016-2017 school year. She is making friends and enjoys time with her peers. Destiny is also doing well in her current foster family and has already formed positive relationships with her present foster parent, as well as with other foster siblings in the home. Destiny seeks comfort and approval from her foster parent and is able to talk with her about her needs and wants (she can be a good self-advocate once she is clear on what those needs and wants are).

Because of her many talents and strengths, Destiny’s needs are not readily apparent to adults who are just getting to know her. As she continues to work on building trust that the significant adults in her life will be there for her always, her adoptive family should be willing to invest the time needed to gain a good understanding of the experiences that have shaped her. Being able and willing to accept Destiny where she is, and to allow her the time she needs to feel secure will go a long way in helping her successfully settle into her family.

Destiny will do best with a family that can provide a consistent daily routine with clear rules, expectations, and limits, as well as consequences that have been discussed with her ahead of time. Destiny will want her adoptive parents to see that she is able to continue seeing a counselor who has a strong understanding of foster care and adoption related issues. It will be important, too, for Destiny’s adoptive parents to let her know that they are willing to participate with her.

Destiny has been very clear about her desire to have a mom and dad family, and she would love to have her own room and pets in the family. She would like an active family that enjoys activities outside the home.  Destiny would likely do best as the youngest of one or two older siblings, or as an only child.
