Makayla, who likes to go by Makayla-Mickey or just Mickey (and prefers the pronoun “they”), loves to read and is often found with a book in their hand. Mickey loves to go on long walks alone or with a close friend or caring, supportive adult. They also enjoy shopping, watching movies, playing cards, going out to eat, attending church, and celebrating American and Christian holiday festivities. Mickey welcomes being exposed to new traditions and new ways to live life. Mickey loves animals, including dogs, but does best with dogs that don’t bark much.
An excellent self-advocate, Mickey has made a lot of progress. Mickey, who is now in the 9th grade, has recently made a renewed commitment to stay in school, an important and positive decision. Friends would describe Mickey as very empathetic and sensitive to their problems and feelings. They interact well with younger kids, teens and young adults.
The significant progress that Mickey has made over a short amount of time is a good indicator of their readiness to join a family. Mickey is most comfortable in a low-key environment with patient, nurturing, safe female caregiver(s) who will take pride in their African-American heritage and provide opportunities for them to participate in cultural and community activities. Providing mentorship and guidance will help Mickey to be their best. Mickey really wants a family that will be very patient and honest. Mickey has an openness and sensitivity about them, among other qualities, to share with their new family. If you feel your family could grow and learn from Mickey as much as they will from your love and support, contact us today.
