| What is Adoption?
Adoption is simply the method by which adults become the legal parents
of children not born to them. An adopted child is entitled to everything
a biological child inherits.
If you have the ability to give a child
unconditional love, patience and commitment, you are an excellent
candidate to become an adoptive parent. You can adopt if you:
- are single, married or divorced
-
already are a parent or
have never been one
- own your own home or rent
- are an adult of any age (You are never too old to love a child!)
The children are boys and girls whose biological parents and/or
families are not able to care for them. These children are considered
Special Needs because:
- They have physical, mental, emotional and/or learning delays or
disabilities.
- They are sibling groups of two or more who wish to remain intact.
- They are older children, especially teens.
- They are physically, sexually or emotionally abused.
- They are drug or HIV exposed.
- They are minority children, who constitute 58% of our adoptable
children.
Can you imagine growing up without the support and guidance of a
permanent home, without a family to call your own?
All of these children need the love and support which can be provided
by a committed parent or family.
Adopt America Network is committed to matching these children with
"special needs" with a dedicated, permanent parent or family.

prevent you from exploring adoption as an option
Ohio Adoption Guide
The Ohio Department of
Job & Family Services has prepared a handbook for prospective adoptive
parents. We encourage all prospective adoptive parents, not just
Ohio residents, to take a look at this handbook. You could find
the answers to many of the questions you may have about the adoption
process.
