Questions That Need Answers
Always remember that “knowledge
is power”.
1. How
long has the child been in care?
2. How many times has he/she moved?
3. When was the last psychological and where can I get a
copy?
4. Is there any sibling and/or relative contact that will be
encouraged to
continue?
5. Any residential placements? Why was the child placed in
residential care
& for how long?
6. What medical and psychological diagnosis does the child
have, if any?
What do all those medical terms mean? How current
is this information?
7. Why did
the child come into care?
8. Is there any history of mental illness, drug addiction or
strong family
violence?
9. Has the child been sexually abused and/or a potential
perpetrator?
10. Is the child sexually active? (older child)
11. Does the child smoke, drink or use recreational drugs? (older
child)
12. Is the child on any medication? What?
13. Are the foster parents interested in adoption and if not, why
not?
14. Has the child bonded with the foster family?
15. Why are siblings being split up?
16. Would the adopting family be considered in the event of the
birth of
additional siblings?
17. Was there
any prenatal care for this child?
18. What were the biological illnesses in the birth family?
19. Is there an IEP for the child? Where can I get a copy?
20. What services has the child received?
21. What medical equipment is the child presently using and will
it come
with the child?
